HINDQUARTERS: STRONG, HIPBONES SET WELL APART AND STIFLE MODERATELY BENT, HOCKS LOW TO THE GROUND, SHOWING GALLOPING AND JUMPING POWER.

Power comes from the ability of the hound to fully straighten the rear; this gives maximum thrust, which can be observed in a good hound even at the walk. Standing naturally, the hocks will be under the hips, with stifles bent; this allows for a quick start or turn. As the rear is posed, the hocks are brought further out; this black and tan shows a more moderate rear than the red, with the stifle straightened; the parti color has a well built rear, overextended and over straightening the stifle. When the hocks can be pulled far beyond the body and the stifle is still bent, you have an overangulated and inefficient rear.
