The Arabs used their hands to measure Salukis. They wanted to see 3 to 4 fingers between the hipbones and the width of a hand with thumb between the tops of the thigh bones. We might debate the size of hand intended but experience shows a wider hip structure allows for better turning at speed, as well as assisting in the full double suspension gallop. Muscles should be well defined, taking a special notice of second thigh muscling -- critical in the field and rarely found in the ring. You would not want to see more spread to the stacked hind legs than with this center cream dog; this could indicate a handler’s overcompensating for excess angulation. Note also the low tail sets.
