FEET: OF MODERATE LENGTH, TOES LONG AND WELL ARCHED NOT SPLAYED OUT BUT AT THE SAME TIME NOT CAT-FOOTED; THE WHOLE BEING STRONG AND SUPPLE AND WELL FEATHERED BETWEEN THE TOES. Feet are the most important single feature of a good running animal. The description of the foot is the longest single section in the standard as the correct Saluki foot is unique to the breed. These top photos show good feet, with varying amounts of feathering (or none!). In the middle, one foot is wet down to show what is under all that feathering. The two center toes are longer than the outside ones, with thick pads. On the bottom are all four feet of a tribal hound whose coursing terrain is far from manicured. Thick pads and strong toes keep this hound in the field. |
