TAIL: LONG, SET ON LOW AND CARRIED NATURALLY IN A CURVE, WELL FEATHERED ON THE UNDERSIDE WITH LONG SILKY HAIR, NOT BUSHY. COAT: SMOOTH AND OF A SOFT SILKY TEXTURE, SLIGHT FEATHER ON THE LEGS, FEATHER AT THE BACK OF THE THIGHS AND SOMETIMES WITH SLIGHT WOOLLY FEATHERS ON THE THIGH AND SHOULDERS COLOR: WHITE, CREAM, FAWN, GOLDEN, RED, GRIZZLE AND TAN, TRICOLOR (WHITE, BLACK AND TAN) AND BLACK AND TAN Whatever the color, the markings, the fringe or lack, Salukis should all display the characteristics of underline, muscling, parts fitting into parts smoothly to give the impression of a hound of hunting ability and great beauty. Markings can fool the eye, as on the black and tan feathered. The white markings give the immediate appearance of a narrow set front. There are no color faults in Salukis. Some exhibitors choose to neaten up the tuckup as excessive hair can detract from a good underline. Whisker trimming is not required or encouraged. Tail carriage is often a controversial subject ringside. Set and carriage should not be confused. You can have a correctly low set tail carried gaily over the back. A gay tail may distract you but the degree of fault, if any, is questionable. |
